Top Guns !

On Friday we welcomed Paul Flyod of ITW and John Boulton of Hertings to present our apprentices with brand new Paslode Guns.

The presentation took place at our head office with Ben Steven and Joshua Hughes representing our apprentices. These gifts will be of huge benefit to all of them and both showed great appreciation of behalf of the apprentices. It will give them a massive stepping stone in to the world of construction allowing them to grow their portfolio of work. Also at the presentation were Mike Stevens and Louis Greenaway.

We would like to give a big Thank You to both Paul and John for the kind donations!

New Supervisor for Somerset

We would like to welcome a new member to our ever growing supervision team; Paul Smith. Paul has taken on the role of Somerset Painting supervisor. Paul will undertake the day-to-day running of the sites in the area.

Paul comes to us with a wealth of experience and knowledge in the painting industry having run his own business, department and labour force before.

The move comes as we have had a large management re-shuffle; now incorporating Regional Contracts Managers to enhance the existing site supervision.

Ceramic Tiling Continues to Grow

We have just won our first ceramic tiling contract in a new area. This will be in Melksham, Wiltshire for Persimmon Homes – Wessex. Expanding in to a new area is what MJ Stevens have been planning for the passed 12 months. Headed up by Brian Hannaford, Tiling Contracts Manager (Pictured) we feel this is the natural progression for the business to make. We hope this will be the first of many working in and around the Wiltshire area.

Cranbrook is GO !

Today MJ Stevens will be starting at Devon’s largest development. The East Devon economy now has a boost that work will start on the new town Cranbrook new town with 2900 homes to be built initially and would create hundreds of jobs including Sky Park site development predicted to create 7000 jobs.

We will be working with all three main contractors, Bovis, Persimmon and Taylor Wimpey across various disciplines. It was key that we were involved in such an exciting and fresh development in the area, with one of the largest labour pools in the area it was an ideal site for us to be working on. Forty per cent of the 2900 homes would be affordable with 16 per cent of its energy will come from renewable sources.

This is yet another development that secures a strong future and the longevity of the MJ Stevens Group.

Building A Strong Future

The carpentry division have taken on a new estimator to assist with the pricing and tendering of the quotations. Ashley has been in the industry for some time and has recently completed his HNC in Construction at Exeter College and has previous experience as a site carpenter, setting himself up perfectly for the estimator role.

Exciting times lay head for the Carpentry division with the development at Cranbrook an ideal location for our carpenters to obtain regular, local work. We have also recently obtained the site at Newton Abbot for Persimmon Homes, further extending our area of work.

Contractor of the Year

Contractor of the Year

M J Stevens have been successful in winning the Persimmon Homes sub contractor of the year. We were awarded this prize at the Persimmon Homes South West Christmas Party. In attendance were Mike Stevens, Managing Director and Louis Greenaway, Business Development Manager.

The award came as a pleasant surprise to both. Louis commented ‘It is great to win this award for the second time in only three years. It is nice to know the extra time and effort our office staff, supervision and operatives put in doesn’t go unrecognised. A great way to end the year’

The award collected by Mike, was presented to him by Persimmon Southern Chief Executive Nigel Greenaway and Managing Director Simon Perks. Mike was keen to thank the supervision and office staff for the work they have done this year and allowing him to be able to pick up this fantastic prize.

Wooden Spoon Lunch

MJ Stevens have just enjoyed the annual charity lunch at Sandy Park. The lunch was headed up by Mike Stevens with guest from the MJ Stevens Group and many close clients.

The day was put on to raise money for disadvantaged children in the South West. It is a charity MJ Stevens has continued to support for many years. The day consisted of a fantastic meal followed by excellent entertainment including a superb violinist, a comedian and an auction which raised further funds for the charity.

New Tiling Contract at Weston - Super - Mare

We have now been successful in adding the tiling contract to a site we are currently working on at Weston Super Mare for St. Modwen. This has been a great addition to our dryline and decorating divisions.

Our tiling division is ever growing with labour being continually scouted for and new sites being taking on all the time, it has been the great success story of 2011.
